From Thursday to Friday this week, the inaugural Grade 5 PYP Exhibition (PYPX) of our Primary School came to a successful conclusion. Centered on the fifth UOI unit The Digital World, 74 Grade 5 students independently formed 16 inquiry teams to conduct in-depth research on real-world social issues.

The topics cover diverse social challenges, including e-waste management, climate change mitigation, AI transformation, identification of corporate greenwashing, ecological conservation, intellectual property protection, plastic alternative solutions, orphan care, local hunger and poverty issues in Guangzhou, development of intelligent prosthetics, cybersecurity risks, screen time management, AI data security and telecom fraud prevention. Based on field investigations, literature reviews and interviews, each team developed targeted and actionable solutions.
The PYPX was open to all teachers and students, invited educational guests and parents. Acting as independent presenters, students shared their complete inquiry journeys on site, fully demonstrating outstanding self-directed inquiry skills, critical thinking and profound social responsibility. During the two-month inquiry cycle, students broke away from passive learning. They independently completed the whole process including raising questions, analyzing root causes, optimizing solutions and presenting outcomes, and solved practical problems with interdisciplinary knowledge, setting a vivid example for lower-grade students.

This event vividly practices the core educational philosophy of IB-PYP: inquiry is never confined to the classroom, and learning can extend to real social scenarios. Young learners in the new era are not only observers of the world, but also problem-solvers. Every primary school student holds the power to make subtle changes. They can care for society and take proactive actions based on their own understanding, fulfilling social responsibility with youthful efforts.
